A reality show starring Michael Jackson's nephews? Apparently, yes, says Hollywood Reporter. The project is currently being shopped by music producer Cory Rooney, and focuses on three sons of Tito Jackson who were all involved in a boy band overseas, and are now looking to regenerate their careers.
Those trying to help include their father, and a couple of the boys uncles and Aunt LaToya. No word yet if Michael will be involved or make an appearance.

R.I.P. Richard Pryor - A Moment of Silence

Richard Pryor, whose blunt, blue and brilliant comedic confrontations confidently tackled what many stand-up comic's before him deemed too shocking—and thus off-limits—to broach, died this morning. He was 65. Pryor suffered a heart attack at his home in San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles early Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The comedian's tremendous body of work, a political movement in itself, was steeped in race, class, social commentary, and encompassed the stage, screen, records and television. He won five Grammys, an Emmy and was an Academy Award nominee for his role in Lady Sings the Blues in 1972.

Pryor worked as an actor and writer as well as a stand-up comic throughout the '70s and into the '80s. He won Grammys for his groundbreaking, socially irreverent, concert albums Bicentennial Nigger and That Nigger's Crazy. And in 1973 he walked away with a writing Emmy for a Lily Tomlin television special.

Pryor starred in more than 30 feature films—including the semiautobiographical directing turn in Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling, The Toy and Superman III. He also co-starred with comedian Gene Wilder in the highly popular buddy films Silver Streak and Stir Crazy.

It was however his concert films—particularly Richard Pryor—Live in Concert (1979)—which many critics consider to be his best work.

By 1975, Pryor appeared on Saturday Night Live, at the time considered to be among TV's most irreverent shows. But it wasn't until Pryor went on the air that SNL instituted for the first time a five-second delay to ensure that Pryor did not ruffle the NBC censors. (Pryor also had his own short-lived series, The Richard Pryor Show, which was axed after only four episodes in 1977, the victim of head office scrutiny and low ratings.

n later years, Pryor's life was a blur of bad choices and reckless acts. Scarred by drugs, violence, quadruple bypass surgery, broken marriages and estranged children, Pryor, submerged in personal chaos, tried to take his own life.

The initial reports of June 9, 1980 were that the comedian accidentally set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine. Pryor finally revealed the truth in his autobiography Pryor Convictions and Other Life Sentences (Pantheon, 1995 and co-written with Todd Gold): "After freebasing without interruption for several days in a row, I wasn't able to discern one from the next . . . Imagining relief was nearby, I reached for the cognac bottle on the table in front of me and poured it all over me. Real natural. Methodical . . . I picked up my lighter . . . I was engulfed in flame. I was in a place that wasn't heaven or earth. I must've gone into shock because I didn't feel anything."

The freebasing incident, like many of Pryor's more dramatic mishaps, turned up as encore-worthy centerpieces of his stage routines. Among them, the much talked about New Year's morning in '78 when he repeatedly fired a .357 magnum revolver into his then wife's car. In incident after incident, the public repeatedly walked along side him, standing in full view of the wreckage, marveling at how many lives this mercurial man appeared to have.

Fans of Crossover Negro Reese, who recently left the Star & Buc Wild morning show on WWPR (105.1 FM), can catch him next month on a comedy stage - or perhaps soon, he says, somewhere on talk radio.

"I have the fullest intention," says Reese, "of returning to the air to continue to discuss and debate some of today's important issues."

He says he is "currently in talks to return to the talk radio market" and his only regret about his sudden resignation from Star & Buc Wild was "not giving the listener a proper goodbye."

Hopkins had been a prominent cast member on Star's show for several years. A self-described conservative, he often joined in animated, heated and edgy discussions.

But that's part of Star's successful on-air technique - letting no one get too comfortable - and Hopkins says, "There are no hard feelings between myself and the show. I had a wonderful time [and] learned so much from being a part of it."

'Housewives' cast member is fired

Detroit native Page Kennedy, 28, who plays a fugitive from the law on "Desperate Housewives," was fired from the hit ABC drama for improper conduct, a series spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Kennedy was let go Friday after a "thorough investigation by the studio" of the allegations against him, publicist Janet Daily said. Details were unavailable, she said. A call by the Free Press to Kennedy was unanswered.

The alleged misconduct didn't involve another cast member, a source close to the production said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Kennedy played Caleb, a character shrouded in mystery and seen only briefly as he was held captive in the basement of Wisteria Lane newcomer Betty Applewhite (Alfre Woodard). In the Oct. 23 episode, it was revealed that Caleb might be responsible for a teenager's murder in Chicago. The role of Caleb is being recast, Daily said. Kennedy's final appearance is Sunday.

Meanwhile, "Housewives" star James Denton spilled upcoming storylines. "I will miss working so closely with Teri Hatcher," he said. "I am looking forward to possibly working closely with another of the housewives."

Strange But True: A Bloody Tattoo Death

A Brooklyn father getting a tattoo called "Last Rites" inked into his flesh passed out and crashed headfirst into a glass counter yesterday, killing himself, police and witnesses said.

Joaquin Laguer, 27, nearly was decapitated during the horrific accident inside Buzz Tattoo, an unlicensed parlor in East Williamsburg.

"There was nothing I could do," said shaken tattoo artist Julio Ramos, 36. "I was kneeling next to him, praying to God.
My assistant said, 'He's gone.'"

Laguer, an aspiring model and rapper, felt faint soon after Ramos finished inking the outline of an abstract, wizardlike tattoo onto his right forearm.

Saying he was hungry, Laguer walked over to a glass counter where he'd placed a Spanish takeout meal of half a chicken, fried plantains and rice.

But before he could reach the food, he passed out and slammed into the front of the counter at 2 p.m. The shattering glass sliced deeply into his neck, Ramos said.

"There was no saving him," said Ramos' assistant, Wilson Fernandez, 24.

Laguer, who had a 2-year-old daughter, was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where he was declared dead at 2:22 p.m.

His grieving girlfriend, Shanequa Neal, said Laguer had eight tattoos and wanted another featuring a picture of their daughter, J'lynn. When he couldn't afford it, he chose another tattoo out of a catalog.

Neal was stunned by the irony of the name of the "Last Rites" image he had selected. "It was like it was his time," she said.

Laguer's mother, Ruthie Stewart, said her son had been plagued with frequent fainting spells throughout his life. The cause of the fainting was never diagnosed, largely because he did not have health insurance and couldn't afford to go to a specialist, his mother said.

"If he had fallen anywhere else, he would be here now," said Stewart, who has two teardrops tattooed under her left eye.

Laguer worked as a security guard to pay bills but had done professional modeling and dreamed of a music career. While at Paul Robeson High School in Brooklyn, he amassed a roomful of trophies for baseball, basketball and football.

His heartbroken girlfriend could not bring herself to tell J'lynn of her dad's death last night. She said she wished she had answered his phone call from the parlor shortly before the deadly accident.

"Maybe he wasn't feeling good, and I could have got him to go home," she said. "I just wish I could hear his voice."

Ramos, who said he has done tattoos for Knicks star Stephon Marbury and Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom, was slapped with three violations for failing to have or post a license and for not maintaining proper records.

"I just wish it had never happened," he said, while mopping up blood last night. "I wish he'd gone home to his kid."

Busted: Boy George Arrested On Drug Charge

Boy George was arrested in New York for possessing drugs and making a fake police report after he called 911 early this morning (Oct. 7) and falsely said his home had been burglarized, police said. The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, called police from a Little Italy apartment around 3:14 a.m. and reported a burglary, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski.

Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a small amount of cocaine next to a computer, police said. A woman in the apartment said there was more cocaine around and police were continuing to investigate. A former spokesman for O'Dowd's autobiographical musical, Taboo, which closed last year, said he did not know whether the singer had a spokesman or lawyer.

The wife of R&B superstar R. Kelly agreed to let a court drop the order of protection she had secured against her husband earlier this month.

Andrea Kelly, 31, has retained Chicago's top-rated divorce lawyer, Donald C. Schiller. She moved out of Kelly's Olympia Fields mansion and took the couple's three children to stay with relatives in a west suburb.

She appeared in court Sept. 2 and alleged she was "fearful of him, and I want to get away safe & be happy."

"Last summer I was slapped," she wrote in the petition she filed to secure the order of protection. "We made up but I asked for a divorce and he pinned me down and continued to hit me yelling 'don't you leave me. Why are you leaving me?' He says, 'I'm sorry I['m] not a wife beatter my hand was open. It not like I did it for no reason ... you made me do it.'"

On Aug. 24, Kelly "snapped over a man in the background of a photo I took with my children at the Parrot Jungle Island" in Miami, Andrea Kelly wrote. That happened within two days of his snapping over a remark she made about a man in a magazine ad, she wrote.

Andrea Kelly admitted she never called police.

She wrote, "I thought it would get better."

The order called for "no contact at all by any means" and gave Andrea Kelly possession of her 2003 Mercedes and her own belongings and those of the children.

R. Kelly, who spent two weeks on the top of the national music sales charts this summer with his album "TP.3 Reloaded," featuring a song about marital infidelity, is fighting child pornography charges in Cook County Criminal Court stemming from a 29-minute videotape he allegedly made of himself engaging in sex acts with an underage girl. He allegedly made the tape with a girl he called his "goddaughter" at a home he owned in Lake View while he was married to Andrea Kelly.

Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell reported two years ago that Andrea Kelly's family was not able to reach her. They were not being allowed to visit her at Kelly's Olympia Fields home or to get telephone calls to her. Her mother, grandfather and aunt told Mitchell they were upset and concerned.

In 1996, Kelly married the former Andrea Lee, a 22-year-old dancer from his touring troupe. People in the singer's camp reportedly call Lee "Puppydog," and Kelly associates say she is required to knock before entering a room in their house if he is at home hanging out with friends.

A hearing on the order of protection had been scheduled for Friday morning. But Andrea Kelly's attorney appeared Thursday to tell the judge he could vacate the order.

"Our client has retained civil counsel for the purpose of trying to work out their marital problems rather than proceeding in domestic violence court," Schiller said.

After Andrea Kelly hired the Schiller, DuCanto and Fleck firm last week, R. Kelly retained another high-profile divorce firm, Beermann, Swerdlove, Woloshin, Barezky, Becker, Genin & London.

New Orleans, Louisiana, native Master P - real name PERCY MILLER - has lost family in the disaster and urges celebrities making passionate speeches about the tragedy to be sincere, because it's the wrong time to promote albums and movies.

West used a live telethon to attack President GEORGE W BUSH and call him a racist for failing to react quickly to help stranded African-Americans in the worst hit areas.

And Master P only hopes West meant what he said: "I hope the comments that Kanye West made is sincere and this is not a promotional thing to sell records... I know he's got a new album out right now."

Miller accepts West has a right to speak his mind, but he wants Americans to come together to help the hurricane victims and not pick racial fights.

He adds, "We gotta save people. We need George Bush, we need the Mayor (of New Orleans), we need the (Louisiana) Governor. I've lost people, I know how real it is. This ain't about a promotional thing with me. I've got loved ones out there missing."

Bryan Abrams, former member of Color Me Badd, is being sued for $16,000 that his 1st ex-wife alleges he owes in back child support. Shon Gables, a news anchor for WCBS in New York City, filed the lawsuit and appeared in Oklahoma County District Court earlier this week with the singer's other ex-wife, Ashly Abrams.

The 35-year-old Abrams was one of the founding members of the Oklahoma-based quartet, whose debut album, C.B.M., sold more than 8 million copies. Their hits included I Wanna Sex You Up and I Adore Mi Amor.

Gables estimates she has spent $10,000 trying to recover support owed by Abrams, who now works in an Oklahoma City tire store.

Ashly Abrams, a hairdresser, said she helped pay Bryan Abrams' legal fees against Gables until their own three-year marriage ended in 2003. The singer has played no role in the life of their 3-year-old daughter, Ashly Abrams alleges.

Bryan Abrams issued a statement claiming, My ex-wife's allegations are simply that: 'allegations.' I prefer to tell my side of the story in court, where I am confident that God will see that truth prevails.

Abrams attorney, Floyd Taylor, told District Judge Allen J. Welch that his client didn't know about the child support agreement and is seeking to have it overturned.

Abrams' fiance, Kim Frazier, said he is working on a new recording to follow his 2001 solo album, Welcome to Me. (Guess I Missed That One)

Gables says Abrams long ago spent all the money he made during his Color Me Badd days: "He has nothing to show for it, except the ASCAP publishing he co-owns with other members of the group."

So Amazing: An All-Star Tribute To Luther Vandross, due Sept. 20, the album celebrates the music of the late R&B icon through covers of his classic hits from such artists as Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Fantasia and Usher.

"No one had ever heard of anyone that sounded like Luther," says Mary J. Blige, who puts her spin on the Vandross classic Never Too Much. No one heard anyone that brought that much soul," she tells Billboard.

In a posthumous duet, Elton John sings the Burt Bacharach/Hal David song Anyone Who Had a Heart alongside the original vocals Vandross recorded for his 1986 Epic Records album Give Me the Reason. In an intriguing choice, Wyclef Jean puts his stamp on Luther’s Always and Forever.

Keys and Jermaine Paul tackle If This World Was Mine, while Dion reworks Luther’s Dance With My Father, the title track of the album released in 2003, shortly after he suffered a debilitating stroke. Vandross died on July 1, 2005 of complications from the stroke. He was 54.

The tribute also features Aretha Franklin singing A House Is Not a Home, Patti LaBelle belting Here and Now and Beyoncé covering the title track.

Solo/Male Super Group Member is pathetic, he is with all these men and doesnt benefit, before he reunited with super group, he was so broke, he lived in Athlete/Producer/Promoter guest house and I heard Athlete/Producer/Promoter's wife wasnt too happy about it.

Marc Ecko Gets NY Up Block Party

Marc Ecko, designer and "Navigator of Youth Culture," is set to recruit the legends of Hip-Hop culture for the upcoming Marc Ecko's Getting Up Block Party. The first-of-it-kind street festival, free to the public and held August 24th on 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues from 12:00PM - 8:00PM, will feature graffiti demonstrations, live DJs and surprise musical performances in celebration of the golden age of Hip-Hop. The event coincides with the anticipated release of Atari's graffiti-based videogame, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.

As a throwback to graffiti's glory days, "Marc Ecko's Getting Up Block Party" will feature ten 48-foot-long by 8-foot-high replicas of the legendary NYC transit blue-bird subway cars, which will be transformed into contemporary urban works of art by renowned graffiti writers. A lineup of legendary artists, from the notorious 'Bronx bomber and destroyer' COPE2 to T-KID (Terrible Kid), who first started writing on trains as early as 1974, will spend the day doing full color murals on the vintage trains.

Other participating graf writers include DASH, WEST, CES, SONIC, IZ THE WIZ, MIN, DURO, WANE, WEN, DERO, CYCLE, SMITH, PINK, DOC, KEL 1st, MARE139, CRASH, DAZE, GHOST, and the famous TATS CREW.

In addition to reviving an old school graffiti tradition, the block party will offer guests the opportunity to participate in live demos of Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure and experience the first truly authentic video game based on urban culture and graffiti. The videogame, which is being published by Atari and developed by The Collective for a Fall 2005 release, brings together over 65 legendary graffiti writers, six of whom will serve as in-game mentors to its protagonist, Trane.

I've noticed a strange fashion trend here in the rotten apple. The guys have started to wear Button Down Dress Shirts and Hard Shoes with Dickies. WTF? Correct me if I am wrong. Dickies are work pants always have been, putting hard shoes and a shirt doesnt actually work for pants that are mainly polly & yester.
Stop being cheap and purchase some real slacks at Marshalls, Burlington, TJ Maxx and any discount department store. Hell no one is gonna know if they came from Macy's or not. Its just wrong.

Ashanti: Breached Contract

Grammy-winning singer Ashanti hit a sour note with a federal jury, which concluded Thursday she owes $630,000 to her first producer for breach of contract.

The singer was not in court when the jury returned its verdict in favor of Genard Parker, who worked with Ashanti in 1996 and 1997 when she was 16.

Ashanti testified during the four-day trial that Parker did not live up to the terms of their deal as he helped her create music in a home studio that was so crude she sang in the bathroom.

Parker, now of Ellenwood, Ga., said after the verdict that he wished the singer and her mother well and had nothing bad to say about them "though they had plenty of negative things to say about me."

Ashanti lawyer Harry Stokes said the singer was disappointed and the verdict would be appealed.

"We think the jury got confused somewhat, particularly on the damages," he said. "We feel confident when this is said and done we won't have to pay out anything."

Parker lawyer Jasmine Khalili called the jury award a "huge victory," even though it fell well short of the $2.2 million one expert testified Parker might be owed.

"They never acknowledged what he had done," she said. "It takes a jury to get a thank you."

Ashanti, whose full name is Ashanti Douglas, lived on Long Island when she went to Parker. She eventually signed with a record company, and Parker released her from his contract with the understanding that he could produce two songs on her first album.

Ashanti was accused in a civil court case on Monday of abandoning her first music producer when he asked for money after she became commercially successful, an allegation she denied on the witness stand.

Genard Parker was an established music producer when Ashanti, then 16 years old, approached him in 1996 for help, his lawyer Jasmine Khalili said.

"This case is about abandoning the people that help us succeed," Khalili charged in opening statements in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, where the contract dispute is being heard by a jury.

She said Parker helped Ashanti in his Bronx home-based studio for eight months when she was "just another teenage girl with a nice voice."

Ashanti, who then lived in Glen Cove, on Long Island, eventually signed with a record company, and Parker released her from his contract with the understanding that he could produce two songs on her first album and receive a $50,000 advance plus royalties, Khalili said.

Two successful records that sold a total of more than 6 million copies mean Ashanti owes Parker millions of dollars in royalties, the lawyer said.

"She has never paid him, and, just as importantly, she has never thanked him," Khalili said.

On the witness stand, Ashanti, now 24, denied that Parker played an influential role in her career.

She said praise she tossed his way on a videotape made in 1997 to help promote her efforts for a recording contract was "a little bit of hype."

"I was excited," she said. "I thought I was getting a record deal."

Her lawyer, Harry Stokes, said it was only after the success of the second album that Parker claimed his contract was violated and demanded money.

Parker, now of Ellenwood, Ga., testified that Ashanti was pleased with the work he did for her in 1996 and 1997.

The trial is expected to last three days, though the singer, whose full name is Ashanti Douglas, left after her testimony for Vancouver, British Columbia, where she is working on a movie.

Lil' Kim struck back Monday at a trial witness who helped to secure her false-statements conviction and yearlong prison sentence, filing a lawsuit accusing the witness of unlawfully using her name and image to promote a DVD.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, she accuses James "Lil' Cease" Lloyd of preparing to release a DVD entitled, The Chronicles of Junior M.A.F.I.A. Part II: Reloaded.

She says the DVD, like a predecessor, was unauthorized and improperly uses her name, image and likeness, amounting to false advertising and false endorsement. She's seeking $6 million in damages.

She also says Lloyd has announced publicly that the DVD will include interviews with him and other members of the Junior M.A.F.I.A. group explaining their involvement with her trial.

There was no telephone listing in Los Angeles for the company that produced Lloyd's DVD, Ground Zero Entertainment, which also is listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Lil' Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was convicted after she told a grand jury that she didn't see her manager and a friend at the scene of a 2001 gunfight outside WQHT, the Manhattan rap station known as HOT 97. A man was injured in the shootout.

Lloyd and Antoine "Banger" Spain, Brooklyn rappers who once teamed with Lil' Kim in the Junior M.A.F.I.A., testified they saw her manager and the friend she denied seeing at the radio station with her.

Lil' Kim says in the lawsuit that she separated from the musical group in 2001 over personal and business differences.

Former Village People Victor Willis was arrested after police allegedly found drugs and a gun in his car. Willis sung lead on and co-wrote Macho Man and In The Navy before leaving the group in the 1970’s. Willis is also the ex-husband of actress Phylicia Rashad. He indulged in a generous hit of freebase prior to each performance, prompting a meeting among the producers. They replaced Willis with Ray Simpson.

Several years ago, according to Bay Area newspapers, police allegedly, wanted to interview him regarding the deaths of three murdered women, their remains were found in a bay area park. Willis was never considered a suspect and was not charged with the crimes.

Born in New York City in 1951, Mr. Vandross was the youngest of four children. His father, an upholsterer, died when Mr. Vandross was still a boy, leaving his mother, a nurse, to support the family.

While in high school, Mr. Vandross developed an affinity for the legendary Motown label's all-female acts, and for the gospel-soul sounds of artists like Aretha Franklin and Cissy Houston. Dreaming of a career in music, he briefly attended Western Michigan University.

In 1972, a song Mr. Vandross wrote, Everybody Rejoice, was included in the Broadway musical The Wiz. But his biggest early break came when he landed a job as a backup singer for the British glam-rock artist David Bowie, who later hired him to work on vocal arrangements for the album Young Americans.

Mr. Vandross soon became a sought-after backup singer and arranger, working for artists from Bette Midler to Barbra Streisand, and he helped pay the bills as an anonymous performer of commercial jingles. In the late 1970's, he recorded under different names and with a variety of groups, including Bionic Boogie and Change, and sang on the Chic hit Dance, Dance, Dance.

He finally signed a contract with Epic Records, which released his 1981 debut, Never Too Much, which reached the top of the R&B charts and sold more than one million copies, effectively sparking his career as a star. Through the 1980's, he released a string of hit albums, including Forever, For Always, For Love, Busy Body and Any Love.

He did broaden his audience further with the 1991 album Power of Love, and through the 1990's he performed hit duets with the pop stars Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey.

Mr. Vandross won a Grammy for best R&B male vocal performance in 1991 for Here and Now, two in 1992 for co-writing the song Power of Love/Love Power and performing on the album of the same name, and another in 1997 for his performance of Your Secret Love.

Judge Orders L.A. to Pay B.I.G. Family

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A federal judge has ordered the city and police department to pay slain rap star Notorious B.I.G.'s family "fees and costs incurred as a result of defendants' misconduct" in the family's wrongful death lawsuit.

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper declared a mistrial in the case, rejecting the city's argument that LAPD Detective Steven Katz had forgotten about documents in his desk drawer until his office was searched last month.

The documents detail Katz's investigation of a prison informant's claim that corrupt former LAPD officers Rafael Perez and David Mack were involved in the 1997 killing of the chart-topping New York rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace. Cooper said the LAPD still has not turned over other files to the plaintiffs, including about 15 personnel complaint investigations into Mack.

"The detective, acting alone or in concert with others, made a decision to conceal from the plaintiffs in this case information which could have supported their contention that David Mack was responsible for the Wallace murder," Cooper wrote in an order released Thursday affirming the family's request for a mistrial and sanctions.

Attorney Perry Sanders Jr. said the family would refile the suit, but he didn't know when. It is expected to accuse the LAPD of racketeering and to name Perez as a defendant.

Wallace's mother Voletta also spoke publicly about her son's death for the first time in years.

"Eight years, three months and 29 days (ago) today, my son was murdered in this town, in this city. For all that time I've labored with pain and sweat just to find out the truth of what happened," she said, adding that her suit "was not about money."

"It was about honesty. It was about integrity. It was about cover-up," she said, jabbing a finger in the air to emphasize each point. "It had nothing to do with dollars and cents."

Police Chief William Bratton, in a separate news conference, forcefully denied the department had covered for Mack, currently serving a 14-year prison sentence for bank robbery, or his one-time partner Perez, the key figure in the LAPD Rampart corruption scandal.

"What the hell do we want to protect those two scumbags for?" Bratton said, noting that LAPD and FBI investigations failed to implicate either man. He added that the department was investigating Katz's "oversight."

Wallace's family claims Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight ordered Mack to kill the rapper, and that Mack's college roommate was the gunman.

The link to Perez emerged only after an anonymous tip during trial. LAPD documents show that Kenny Boagni, who became friends with Perez in prison, told detectives in 2000 and 2001 that Perez had acknowledged moonlighting in a security role for Death Row on the night Wallace was killed, and had called Mack just before the shooting.

Perez's attorney, Winston McKesson, said that if the Wallace family sues his client, he will respond by suing them for malicious prosecution.

She calls herself “The Queen of All Media,” and considering her 20-year career includes a No.1 radio show in New York on WBLS, a television show on VH1 and several books on the New York Times bestseller list, it would be difficult for anyone to say Wendy Williams was anything less. The opinionated empress adds another feather to her fabulous cap with Wendy Williams Brings the Heat: Vol. 1, a CD compilation designed to showcase the emerging and overlooked talents in today’s world of hip-hop and R&B. The disc shows Williams’ ear to be just as formidable as her tongue and proves that, at the end of the day, there’s a lot more to the radio maven than her ability to dish the dirt on the Destiny’s Child breakup and the bubble of hype surrounding Mariah Carey. Don’t worry, though—we took it there, too…

Why this CD and why right now? It was important for me to get it out in time for summer, because you know how summer and good music go together! Overall, [the CD compiles] my wish list [of artists]: Amerie was obvious, Jadakisss is my favorite rapper of all time and, to me, M.O.P. is the top rap group ever—they can throw down with Kid Rock on a stage in Germany and keep the crowd moving in Brooklyn, yet they don’t sell like some other artists. But record sales do not equal greatness.

Speaking of record sales, do you think hip-hop is reaching the end of its reign? I think it’s going into a new phase. It’s tired to have a bunch of ice and a bunch of rims and not have actual assets like a great house, property and investments. It’s not enough that you’re on Cribs in a rented house!

With sampling running rampant, do you think originality is vanishing? Well, there’s a formula and record companies get nervous that you won’t sell the music to make the money. Artists are afraid that they need that formula, but look at my good friend Jill Scott.

That’s my girl! She went platinum! On the strength of one single! But you don’t go platinum based only on a single; they do it by elating to their audience and not trying to fit into a mold.

What’s your comment for people who view you as nothing more than a gossip? That’s a fair assessment. My foundation is radio, and the foundation of radio started out as a comment on pop culture—otherwise known as gossip. I’ve evolved, though. I’m a woman who has lived a bit and I do have opinions. I don’t necessarily consider myself a role model, but I do consider myself a strong representation of black women today—one of many.

Has being a mother altered the type of music you want your children to hear? Oh god, let me answer this correctly: No! But it has opened my ears to other types of music. I still listen to the same shit—everything from Cher to Madonna to the Dip Set to gutter hip-hop. I just listen to the clean version when [my son] is in the car.

Your fan base is pretty extensive—black, white, gay, straight, Latino. Why do you think that is? I don’t know. Sometimes I want to ask people, like when I’m in the store and see a white lady in her 50s—though she looks 40 ’cause that’s how we do now—and she’s with her kids and they all know who I am, sometimes I want to say: “Why do you listen?” I think it’s because I’m being myself—I never pretend to be from the block. I think my appeal is based in my honesty.

On that note, tell me the first thing that comes to mind about the following things: Michael. Guilty! Poorly tried case, but guilty. And I’ll be looking at him the same way I look at O.J. and Robert Blake.

Destiny Fulfilled. To be expected—but wait for the rest of the story, honey, ’cause there’s about to be fire!

Mariah. Love her! She embraces the 12-year-old inside and I can identify with that, but at the end of the day we’re both grown-ass women and we pay our bills on time!

Whitney. A mess—and I’m not even gonna ask what happened, ’cause I’ve been there already.

Lil’ Kim. Shit happens. But she’s got a chance to come back. She’s a hip-hop socialite and a fabulously sweet girl. She’ll find a way to be relevant when she gets out.

Lastly, what do you want this CD to do for people’s summer? When we sealed this deal. I made a firm decision that I was going to give something good to the people who are good enough to support me. I want this CD to be the party theme music when people are heading to the clubs, needing a pick-me-up or a way to calm down. I poured my heart and soul into this project and think it rounds out my being the Queen of All Media.

Self-proclaimed Queen! Well, I think there are people who would co-sign on that, but I’m not one to talk. I realize that my 15 minutes of fame was over, came back, was over and came back again. I don’t know how that happened, but I’m just grateful to be here, because at the end of the day it is all about the fans.

In what should be pre-publicity for her upcoming novel, Interruption Of Everything, Terry McMillian is now in a messy divorce with the inspiration of How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Jonathan Plummer. The writer is rather peeved that her husband realized--five years into their marriage--that he prefers the company of men. McMillan, who wrote "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" after meeting her decades-younger paramour, appears to now be fashioning a sequel in California's Superior Court. Call it "Diary of a Very Mad Black Woman."

In a series of court filings in the divorce case, including a declaration filed this month by Plummer claiming that McMillan repeatedly harassed him after he disclosed last year that he was gay. Plummer said that McMillan has tormented him in a series of vitriolic letters, one of which concluded, "I wish I had never met your sneaky ass. I wish I had never married you. I do hate you Jonathan...And I hate all the Fags out there like you who use women to hide behind so that you can walk the streets of America without a care in the world...you're a Fag alright."

PLUMMER: "I tried to talk to Terry about my sexuality..."

Oprah Winfrey wants to hit Hermès where it hurts - in its fine leather wallet.

You may have heard that the talk queen was denied entry to the luxury-goods store's Paris branch last weekend at closing time. According to one report, Hermès staffers rebuffed Winfrey because they didn't recognize her and because they'd been "having a problem with North Africans lately."

But friends of Oprah say that's bunk.

"They knew exactly who she was," a pal tells us. "They specifically said, 'We know who you are.'"

The source says Oprah arrived just after 6:30 p.m., when there were still shoppers inside the store. According to the source, Oprah politely asked an Hermès sales clerk if she could dash in. She knew what she wanted: a specific watch for Tina Turner, her dinner partner that evening.

Now if the No. 1 celebrity on Forbes' power list - a woman who earned $225 million last year - knocked on their doors, many shopkeepers would carry her in on a litter, even if it was midnight.

Instead, she was rebuffed - first by the clerk, then by a store manager.

Though Oprah hasn't accused the Gauls of racism, her friend suggests, "If it had been Celine Dion or Britney Spears or Barbra Streisand, there is no way they would not be let in that store."

Hermès' brusque treatment understandably came as a shock to someone who recently bought a dozen of the store's Birkin bags, which can run $6,500. In fact, Oprah had just ordered another one.

After last weekend, she canceled that order.

We also hear she's called Robert Chavez, president of Hermès in America, to inform him that, although she has long enjoyed his stores, she will no longer be shopping there.

We also hear she may share the incident with her 22 million-plus viewers.

"We are calling it Oprah's 'Crash' moment," says the friend, recalling the new movie about race in America.

Our calls to Hermès weren't returned yesterday.

This isn't the first time Oprah is alleged to have gotten a hard time in the luxe lane. In 1994, a former employee of Bulgari alleged in a lawsuit that the jewelry store hiked its prices for Oprah and other celebs. The store denied the charge.

A bubbly soufflé of a screwball romantic comedy THE BAXTER starring the film's writer-director as Elliot Sherman, who is the classic guy left at the altar in old romantic movies. Elliot could miss out on his perfect match because he is so focused on the blonde bombshell who will never love him, but might marry him. Also starring Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Williams, and Justin Theroux. Never have I laughed so hard at a comedy recently.

The story revolves around a strange little hospital with weird patients and even weirder staff.

A patient in a hospital dies due to malpractice. In a panic, the doctors responsible stage a cover up. Shortly thereafter, another patient is left at the hospital doors dying of bizarre symptoms. When the patient dies, the doctors involved in the cover up being acting strangely then one by one develop the same mysterious and deadly symptoms. (Japanese with English subtitles). Allegations against Towanda Braxton-Carter, pop star Toni Braxton’s sister, stem from checks stolen from Safeco regional headquarters in Gwinnett County, according to the police report filed in the incident.

The sister of R&B singer Toni Braxton is facing criminal charges in Gwinnett County. Braxton-Carter, who lives in Duluth, was charged with forgery and theft-by-receiving.

Braxton-Carter, 31, was once an employee of Safeco, an insurance firm, but quit months before the alleged thefts took place.

Braxton-Carter was reportedly in a back room of the company’s office where the blank checks are stored with Steven Robeson, an employee, on January 31. Robeson left the room for a few minutes leaving Braxton-Carter alone and at that time she allegedly stole three blank company checks, the police report said.

Braxton-Carter apparently used one of the checks at the Sweetwater Liquor Store, according to the police report.

The check was processed, but rejected because of errors on the check and the liquor store subsequently contacted Safeco and Peggy Kingman, whom the police report lists as an investigator, and presumably, is employed by Safeco.

Kingman said Braxton-Carter told her that Robeson had given her the checks and that she did not know they were forged. Robeson told Kingman he did not know anything about the checks, according to the police report.

The other two checks have not been accounted for.

Robeson was fired by Safeco for allowing someone into the back room, which is against company policy, the police report said.

Braxton-Carter, who lives in Duluth, Ga., has been charged with one count of forgery.

The Gwinnett County district attorney recently received the case and no court hearings have yet been set, Gwinnett officials told 11Alive News.

A representative for Braxton-Carter declined to comment. A Safeco spokesman also declined to comment on the allegations.

Braxton-Carter was recently on the how "Starting Over" and was a member of the R&B singing group The Braxtons.

FBI Ends Probe Into Killing of Rap Star

Bureau discards theory being pursued by its lead agent regarding slaying of Notorious B.I.G.

By Chuck Philips, Times Staff Writer

The FBI has closed an investigation into the 1997 slaying of rap star Notorious B.I.G., abandoning a controversial theory pursued by its lead agent on the case.

The bureau spent 18 months investigating the possibility that a rogue Los Angeles police officer and rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight orchestrated the killing of B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace.

FBI officials conducted a review of the investigation — and shut it down in January — after learning that Agent Philip J. Carson had discussions with lawyers for Wallace's mother, Voletta Wallace, and had been subpoenaed to testify in her wrongful-death lawsuit against the city.

The FBI has informed Voletta Wallace's lawyers that Carson will not testify in the case. Officials also ordered Carson to have no further contact with the lawyers and to refer any inquiries from them to the FBI legal department.

Voletta Wallace, whose suit accuses the Los Angeles Police Department of covering up police involvement in her son's killing, is seeking unspecified monetary damages. The case is scheduled to go to trial April 12 in federal court in Los Angeles.

It is unclear what testimony her lawyers intend to elicit from Carson.

Louis J. Caprino Jr., acting head of the criminal division of the FBI's Los Angeles field office, said this week that Carson's investigation was closed because federal prosecutors reviewed the evidence he had gathered and "determined that there was no basis for prosecution."

FBI officials acknowledged that they discussed with Carson his dealings with the Wallace lawyers. But they said that had no bearing on the decision to halt the investigation.

Caprino said the discussion was part of a "standard administrative review" conducted whenever an agent is subpoenaed to testify. He said the bureau found no improper conduct on Carson's part.

Perry Sanders, an attorney for Voletta Wallace, took issue with the FBI's explanation for why the probe was discontinued.

Sanders said the LAPD "exerted political pressure on the FBI to lay off the case." He said he learned this from "a reliable confidential source" whom he would not identify.

Assistant FBI Director Richard T. Garcia, head of the Los Angeles office, rejected the allegation. "No one at the FBI was asked or directed to stop anything," Garcia said in an interview. "This investigation was reviewed diligently by [Carson's] boss on a regular basis and the results were submitted to the U.S. attorney's office. They determined that the evidence was insufficient for prosecution. So we dropped it."

Christopher Wallace, then 24, was gunned down March 9, 1997, in front of hundreds of fans after a music industry party at the Petersen Automotive Museum in the mid-Wilshire district.

LAPD detectives have pursued various theories in their efforts to solve the crime. One is that the killing, like that of rap star Tupac Shakur six months earlier, stemmed from a feud between rap figures in New York and Los Angeles.

Shakur was the brightest star of Knight's Death Row Records in Los Angeles. Wallace was associated with Bad Boy Records in New York. The two stars and their associates had exchanged insults and threats on stage and in recordings.

In 1998, LAPD investigators began to suspect that a disgraced former officer, David A. Mack, may have been involved. By then, Mack was in prison for robbing a bank. He had been on the police force at the time of Wallace's killing.

Detectives learned that Mack owned a black Chevrolet Impala similar to one seen speeding from the murder scene. A witness said he saw Mack outside the automotive museum several hours before the shooting.

Then-Det. Russell Poole advanced the idea that Mack planned the killing at Knight's behest and arranged for a friend, Amir Muhammad, to ambush Wallace.

Other information gathered by investigators did not support the theory, however, and detectives turned their attention elsewhere. Knight, Mack and Muhammad, a Southland mortgage broker, have all denied any role in the killing.

Since resigning from the LAPD in 1999, Poole has continued to promote his theory in books and through appearances in documentaries and on TV shows. Voletta Wallace's lawsuit incorporates Poole's arguments, and he is listed as an expert witness for the plaintiffs.

Carson, the FBI agent, began his investigation after watching Poole on a TV special in the summer of 2003, court documents show.

Carson contacted Poole and interviewed other detectives, witnesses and informants around the country at the suggestion of Wallace family attorneys, records show.

In December 2003, Carson and other agents conducted surveillance of Muhammad and wired an informant in an attempt to illicit incriminating statements from him. The effort yielded nothing.

In February 2004, Carson visited Mack at a federal prison in Alabama. Mack has said Carson offered to seek a reduction in his 14-year sentence for the bank robbery if he cooperated in the Wallace investigation.

In a court filing, Mack said he rejected the offer in no uncertain terms.

"I advised Carson that he had to be either the most inept or laziest agent I had ever met," Mack wrote. "It was obvious that he … was only regurgitating the allegations contained in the Wallace civil complaint verbatim."

This week, FBI officials disputed Mack's account, contending that Carson never offered to seek a reduction in his sentence, which they said would have violated FBI policy.

In September, FBI officials say, they asked Carson to attend a meeting to discuss why his name was on a plaintiff's list of potential witnesses.

During the meeting, Carson's bosses also discussed his conduct of the investigation and explored his dealings with the plaintiff's attorneys, sources said.

FBI officials were concerned that Carson might have been influenced by the Wallace lawyers and that his contacts with them could embarrass the bureau, the sources said.

FBI agents are permitted to contact civil attorneys to see if they have information relevant to a criminal investigation. But bureau policy bars agents from sharing investigative information with them.
